Dear AUSPL Member:

The non-partisan AUSPL Political Action Committee is asking AUSPL members to make a personal contribution so that AUSPL can continue to support Legislators who have demonstrated support for universal mail service and the network of leased postal facilities.

The passage of postal reform legislation (long supported by AUSPL) has helped solidify the U.S. Postal Service’s financial condition.  In addition, the shift from predominantly first-class mail to package mail has resulted in the installation of package sorting equipment in many postal facilities.  The USPS is operating more efficiently than in the past, and more upgrades are coming.  Many of these changes would not have been possible without action from Congress.

Now, postal lessors face new challenges.  the USPS has plans to consolidate carrier routes into regional sorting and distribution centers.  Rather than picking up mail for delivery routes at local post offices, mail carriers in the areas of the sorting and distribution centers would pick mail up at, and run delivery routes from, the centers.  While the overall long-term impact of the change on leased buildings and lessors in unclear, the plan will certainly result in the removal of certain sorting and mail delivery functions from some post offices in the vicinity of the sorting and distribution centers.  AUSPL leadership will be watching as this new policy develops and will keep the membership apprised of developments.

Additionally, each election cycle brings newcomers to Congress who may not know about the network of leased postal facilities and AUSPL’s role as an advocate for postal lessors. Accordingly, with each session of Congress AUSPL works to educate new legislators and remind continuing legislators of lessors’ interests.

Donations from AUSPL members have helped AUSPL build relationships with the members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives who influenced postal reform legislation and will be instrumental in the passage of other legislation affecting the USPS and lessors.

Thank you to AUSPL members who have supported the AUSPL legislative efforts and have made PAC contributions in the past. Your support and contributions are greatly appreciated.

Together we are stronger, and your participation allows AUSPL to continue our positive efforts in influencing Congress to help us preserve universal mail service and the network of leased postal facilities.

Sincerely,
